Acquire website

Thanks for visiting the Acquire website.

Acquire  is a mixed-voice community choir based in Rhuddlan, North Wales.

Acquire was founded by Musical Director Leslie Churchill Ward in July 2010. Under the leadership of Leslie and Deputy Musical Director Huw Ellis-Williams, Acquire performs music in all styles – musical theatre, gospel, pop, jazz, big band, a capella and more. We have also performed and recorded with Mike Peters and The Alarm and can be heard on various CDs by Steve ‘Smiley’ Barnard.
We are a mixed voice choir for men, women and young people. We have qualified and licensed chaperones for children of 13 and upwards. New members are always welcome to come and visit! We are particularly interested in people who sing in the Tenor range. There are no auditions to join although Leslie and Huw may wish to hear you sing so they can allocate you to the appropriate section for your voice. Come along to a rehearsal for a ‘taster session’ to see whether you’re interested in joining. Generally we take on membership to the choir after Christmas, Summer and Easter breaks.

As you will see from our Repertoire, we sing a little bit of everything: there is definitely something for everyone!  There are opportunities to audition for solos in various songs, and we also hold periodic auditions for members of Acquire to sing in our small Jazz Choir.

It doesn’t matter whether you can read music or have sung in a group before – all you need to  bring to rehearsal is a positive attitude and a pencil! (A bottle of water is also a good idea… as well as a sense of adventure!)

We rehearse at Neuadd Capel Ebeneser Hall on Parliament Street, Rhuddlan, LL18 5AL. There’s a car park across the road from the hall, which is free when we rehearse on Sunday evenings from 6.30pm- 8.30pm. This gives us plenty of time to sing, have fun, and still have time to get home at a decent hour to relax before the start of a new week. Please do not use the Community Hall car park. If there are no spaces left in the car park across the road, please park legally on the road somewhere.

The Jazz Choir rehearses immediately following Acquire, at 8:30pm – 9.30pm.

First and foremost we are a community choir. However, we have managed to help raise funds for a number of causes close to our hearts including St Kentigern Hospice, Tenovus, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, By Your Side, RNLI, Vale of Clwyd Mind, KIM Inspire and others.

The choir is available for public or private performances (subject to the availability of a balance of voices) – Contact us for further details. Please try to give us as much notice as possible.
