Mike Peters & The Alarm

In 2014 we were very fortunate to have been asked to record on Mike Peters’ 30th anniversary re-release of his “Declaration” album. From this our friendship has grown and we have since performed many times with Mike and his band.

We were honoured to perform in the Hoddinott Hall at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff in April 2014 for the “Horizons Sing” concert, not only with Mike and his drummer Smiley, but with John Quirk and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. This was recorded by BBC Radio Wales as part of “Wales Music Day 2014” and has been broadcast twice since recording.  Video clips of the concert can be seen by following the link on our Media page.

More recently, we joined Mike at the ‘Big Busk’ at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd to help launch his ‘By Your Side’ appeal to raise money for cancer services across North Wales.  We recorded backing vocals for the re-release of the “Strength” album, with our musical director Leslie becoming more actively involved in working out the choral arrangements for some of the songs.  This was followed up by an invitation to take part in ‘The Gathering’ in January 2015, where we sang with Mike on the Friday night acoustic set before making a surprise appearance on two of his songs in the main Saturday night concert.  Shortly afterwards, we performed to our biggest audience to date when we joined Mike as part of the opening entertainment for the Wales vs England Under 20 Rugby International at Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay.

We are thrilled that we were invited to perform with Mike and The Alarm again at a very special event in the Wales Millennium Centre in October 2015, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Alarm.

The concert came a few weeks before Acquire’s second appearance at Mike’s ‘Big Busk’ at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, and followed the announcement that Mike is to undergo his third course of treatment as his Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia has returned.  The concert followed the preview of ‘Man in the Camo Jacket’, a film documenting Mike’s battles with cancer and the fundraising he has been inspired to do through his Love Hope Strength foundation. Recorded for DVD release, it was an incredibly emotional evening, and one which Acquire was honoured to be a part of.
